Idea discussions
Talk through an idea with the person who submitted it or the person triaging it, draft replies with AI, and close the discussion when it is settled.
When someone triaging ideas in the Planning Inbox needs more detail, they can start a discussion with the person who put the idea forward. The discussion is a simple back-and-forth between the two of you. It appears in My Tasks as a Discussion whenever it is your turn to reply.
Discussions help an idea get the detail it needs before a decision is made, without email or meetings.
Before you start
- Open My Tasks and select a row with the type Discussion.
- If you submitted the idea, you can also reply from the idea itself on the Submissions page. See Submitting an idea.
- To reply or resolve a discussion, your role needs permission to work in the Planning Inbox. Without it, you can read the discussion but not add to it.
Understanding the discussion page
| Area | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Subject | What the discussion is about, with a note saying whether it is about your idea or an idea you’re triaging. |
| Status | Whose turn it is. See the table below. |
| Resolve | Closes the discussion. Only shown while it is open. |
| Messages | The conversation. Your messages are on the right, the other person’s on the left, each with who wrote it and when. |
| Reply box | Where you write your reply, with Draft with AI and Send. |
AI-assisted next to a message means it was drafted with the AI co-pilot.

Reply to a discussion
-
Read the latest message.
-
Type your answer in Write a reply….
-
Select Send.
Your message appears on the right, and the discussion moves to Waiting in My Tasks until the other person replies.
Draft a reply with AI
The AI co-pilot drafts a reply to the latest message from the other person, grounded in the idea itself.
-
Select Draft with AI.
The AI co-pilot panel opens and shows Drafting… while it writes.
-
Read the draft.
-
To change it, type an instruction in Ask the co-pilot to refine… — for example, “make it firmer” or “ask about timing” — and send it.
-
When you are happy, select Use this to drop the draft into your reply.
-
Edit the reply if you need to, then select Send.
To close the panel without using a draft, select Hide co-pilot or the close button.
Resolve a discussion
Mark a discussion resolved once the question is settled.
-
Select Resolve at the top of the discussion.
The status changes to Resolved and the reply box disappears.
What happens next
- If you are triaging the idea, the submitter’s answers help you decide what to do with it. In the Inbox, a submitter’s reply can be folded into the idea as a new version — see Reviewing an idea.
- If you submitted the idea, your answers are visible to the person triaging it. You can follow the idea’s progress on the Submissions page.
