Review your workspace’s access roles and create custom roles with exactly the permissions you need.

Every member has one access role. The role decides which sections of Paradym Next they see and what they can do in each one. Your workspace comes with a set of built-in roles. When none of them fits, you can create a custom role and choose its permissions area by area.

Before you start

To open this page, your role must include access to people management and permission to manage access. If you cannot see Roles & Permissions under Administration, ask an administrator.

To open the page, select Administration → Roles & Permissions in the sidebar.

Understanding the page

The page has two parts.

  • Roles, on the left, lists every access role in the workspace. Select a role to see its details and permissions on the right.
  • The details panel, on the right, shows the selected role’s label, description and permission grid.

Built-in and custom roles

TypeWhat you can change
Built-inRoles that come with the workspace, such as Product Manager, Team Lead and Engineer. You can rename them and change their description, but their permissions are fixed and they can’t be deleted. A Built-in badge marks them, and the grid shows Permissions locked (built-in).
CustomRoles you create. You can change the label, description and every permission, and you can delete them.

The permission grid

The grid has one row per area of the product, grouped into Product & delivery and Workspace areas. Each row has three columns.

LevelWhat it generally allows
ReadSee the area and its content.
WriteCreate and change content in the area.
ManageAdminister the area, for example assign roles or change settings that affect other people.

Tick a box to grant that level for that area. A role with no permissions in an area does not see the related pages in the sidebar.

Create a custom role

  1. Select New role.
  2. Enter a Label, for example “Delivery Lead”. A Key is suggested from the label; you can change it.
  3. Optionally, add a Description of what the role is for.
  4. Select Create role.
  5. The new role starts with no permissions. Tick the permissions it needs on the grid.
  6. Select Save changes.

Edit a role

  1. Select the role in the Roles list.
  2. Change its label or description. For a custom role, tick or untick permissions on the grid.
  3. Select Save changes. The button becomes available only when something has changed.

Edits are kept only once you save. Members with the role see the effect the next time they load a page.

Delete a custom role

Select the custom role, then select Delete (the bin icon). The role is removed straight away — there is no confirmation step, so check you have the right role selected first.

Assign a role to someone

Roles are assigned on the Members page, not here. Use the Role column or the Edit member dialog.

Good to know

  • Your organisation can also switch whole sections of Paradym Next on or off for the workspace. If a section is switched off, nobody sees it, whatever their role.
  • Some pages also depend on what a person is doing. For example, My Tasks appears for anyone with work stream tasks assigned to them, and the Inbox appears only to people who triage ideas.
