Departments
Organise people by department and choose who reviews PRD sections written for each one.
Departments reflect how your organisation is structured — Finance, Legal, Security, Operations and so on. They matter most during planning. Each section of a product requirements document (PRD) can be written for a department, and that department’s reviewers become the shortlist offered when the section’s reviewers are chosen.
Before you start
- To open this page, your role must include access to people management.
- To create, edit or delete departments, your role must also allow you to make changes.
To open the page, select Administration → Departments in the sidebar.
Understanding the page
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Department | The department’s name, colour dot and short code. The code and colour are what show on the Members page chips. |
| People | The first few people’s avatars and the total count. Hover over an avatar to see the person’s name. |
| Reviewers | The people who review PRD sections written for this department. They are the shortlist offered when a section’s reviewers are assigned. |
At the end of each row are Edit department and Delete department buttons.
Create a department
- Select New department.
- Enter a Name, for example “Finance”.
- Enter a short Code, for example “FIN”.
- Choose a Colour.
- Under People, use Search people… to find people and tick each one who belongs to the department.
- For each person who should review PRD sections for this department, select the gavel button beside their name (Make a reviewer for this department). It stays highlighted for people who review for the department.
- Select Create department.
Edit a department
- Select Edit department on the department’s row.
- Rename or recolour it, tick or untick people, or change who is marked as a reviewer.
- Select Save changes.
Delete a department
- Select Delete department on the department’s row.
- Read the confirmation message and confirm.
People in the department keep their accounts. However, PRD sections written for the department lose their reviewer shortlist, so owners will need to pick reviewers without it.
Why reviewers matter
When a PRD is prepared for review, each section shows the department it is written for. The item’s owner picks reviewers for each section, and the list starts with that department’s reviewers. If a department has no reviewers, the shortlist is empty.
Keep your reviewer lists current so that PRDs can be sent for review without delay. See Review step.
